Full Description:
John Cook running for City Council
My name is John Cook and I am requesting your vote in the February 5th. special election for Sachse City Council.
I was born in Dallas and raised in Garland. I graduated from South Garland HS. I lived in Garland until I went in to the United States Air Force during Desert Storm, where I served as a Crew Chief on EC-130s. Later I served in the Air Force Security Forces as a police officer. Upon leaving the Air Force I came back to Texas and attended the University of North Texas. Although political science was my major, computers were my passion. In 1995 I began teaching the core computer science class at UNT.
In August of 2000 I was married to Brandi L. Spears and in May of 2002 our first child Preston was born. Shortly after my son’s birth we moved to Sachse from Frisco. I used my experience teaching to obtain several jobs in the IT field. In 2002, with my wife’s support, I started my own consulting company called Dallas Tech Support, Inc.
In July of 2003 I joined the Army National Guard. I served as a Intelligence Analyst in the 3/144th HHC, based in Terrell Texas, until February of 2004 when I was recommended by my superiors to attend Officer Candidate School (a.k.a. OCS). I am currently on track to gain my commission and rank of 2nd Lieutenant in March of this year when I will be assigned to either the Signal Corps or to the Infantry.
What do I stand for?
Sachse is a wonderful place. However, I believe we can make it better. The area around us is growing at a fantastic pace and Sachse should be part of that growth. Because our town is land-locked, growing our borders is all but impossible. What we need to do is make what we have even better. We need to attract more businesses and more residents. In order to do this we must modernize and beautify the city. Most traffic comes through town using Hwy. 78. This area is also know as the industrial area. We need to make this area look more appealing to potential residents and builders. By increasing the number of residents and businesses we have, the tax revenue generated would also increase. This increase in revenue can help Sachse with other issues it is facing. We could build a permanent “downtown” area. Including the construction of a city hall, police station and larger library. We can also make the Sachse Senior Center a place our seniors can be proud of. A place they can get training in areas of interest to them. The increase tax revenues could also make it possible to cap senior citizen property tax. Easing the burden our growth may inflict on our seniors.
